NEW DELHI: The failure to step up growth could impact national security, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has warned, blaming lack of political consensus for his government’s inability to attract new investments to Asia’s third-largest economy.
“If we do not increase the pace of the country’s economic growth, take steps to encourage new investment in the economy, improve the management of government finances and work for the livelihood security of the common man and energy security of the country, then it most certainly affects our national security,” the prime minister said in his Independence Day speech to the nation.
Speaking from the ramparts of the Red Fort, Singh hoped thatc would be a “little better” than the 6.5% achieved last year while attributing the economic slowdown to external factors….”
