In U.K. Visit, Hollande Urges Unity to Cut French Debt

LONDON—Everyone in France must contribute to reducing the national debt, French President François Hollande said Tuesday, insisting that his government’s austerity measures—which include a rise in the top rate of tax for high earners—aren’t meant to punish the rich.
Mr. Hollande, speaking at the French Embassy before a meeting with U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron, said people should come together in their country’s interest to help repair the battered public finances.
